大学の紹介
1864年創立。ネバダ州で初めての大学としてスタートし、1987年に現在のレノにキャンパスを移転した州立大学。レノはカルフォルニア州との境界線に位置する人口約18万人の街で、サンフランシスコまで車で約4時間。経済学、自然科学、平和学などのほか、特に医学の研究は州の中心的存在。州から土地を寄与された大学ということもあり、農学、工学、鉱業などの分野にも力を入れている。人気の専攻は初等教育と生物学。入寮は希望者のみで、１年次の約52％が寮生活をしている。優秀な成績を収めた学生が同じ寮に住む制度もある。
