大学の紹介
1867年創立。解放された黒人奴隷に高等教育の機会を与えるために設立された私立大学。現在では総合大学としてあらゆる人種を受け入れているが、基本的には黒人系の大学（Historically Black Colleges and Universities）で、いまでも在学生の大半は黒人。黒人系の大学の中では名門として知られ、カマラ・ハリス氏をはじめとして数多くの黒人リーダーを輩出している。ノーベル賞作家のトニ・ モリスンも卒業生。知的好奇心に満ちた在学生たちのプライドもとても高く、愛学心にみなぎっている。ビジネス、コミュニケーション、生物学などが人気の専攻分野。STEM教育のパイオニアでもあり、大学院ではロースクール（法科大学院）が歴史と実績を誇る。アメリカの首都ワシントンDCに位置するというのも大きな魅力となっている。
